. . . as anything other than Muslims kicking sand in the face of the U.S.? Correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding of history is that it is quite common for mosques to be built on top of the ruins of the holy places of other religions, in a show of dominance or conquer over that religion (see India, former Constantinople, etc.). And now some group wants to build a 13-story super-delux mosque at the site of Ground Zero, and I am to believe this is not intended to send a message? Or at the very least intentionally piss everyone off?
Keep in mind, too, I am no War on Terrorism nut. In fact, the War on Terror, in general, scares me in that I see it, at least under Bush, as a way to erode freedoms. And I am not one to think that 911 needs to be forecer enshrined and worshipped. This isn't about that. This is about a group of Muslims pissing on our territory, and thumbing their nose at the U.S.
Also, I am not advocating that we "do something about this." I think the government's hands are tied by the First Amendment, unless this could be viewed as a symbol so strong it is meant solely to harass, and will lead to problems.
I just think it is very informative and instructive that someone would do something like this.
