Mr. Lizard was found dead in his home Saturday morning, apparently from natural causes. A quick ceremony was held in the half bath off the kitchen, at which point he was flushed away to eternity.
Hadley was actually pretty upset about Mr. Lizard (first name Crown, but we just called him Mr. Lizard). She cried all morning. Her birthday is coming up Tuesday, and she said she wanted a new lizard for her birthday. So off to the pet store we went, never intending to come home with an exotic Bearded Dragon. Hadley fell in love with this little lizard at first sight. He is pictured here, and here and here.
I was very hesitant at first. Not only did I have sticker shock from the price, but apparently we were thinking of entering an entirely different world of lizards from what we had known before. Mr. Lizard was just a little, common lizard. These Bearded Dragons apparently grow to two feet long (that includes tail), and live for over 10 years. I cross-examined the Pet Smart guy very thoroughly about what we were getting into. Luckily, this guy really had alot of knowledge about the lizards, and he helped make me feel more comfortable with the idea. What really impressed me was, instead of running away from people like Mr. Lizard did, this guy loved to be picked up and held. And he had this perma-grin smile on his face that is irresistable. Hadley named him Mr. Dragon, and his first name is Smilie.
I have to admit, the new lizard is way cool. He loves to be taken oout of his cage, and he never hides. In fact, the opposite, he is always out front of his cage checking out what is going on. And he really is cute, and totally cool.
