So, lately I have become bored with my workout routine. And, even though I am pretty much in the best shape I have ever been in, I find I have plateaued (sp?), yet I still have the annoying remnants of my gut. Good ol' gut - we've been together through thick and thin. But like an old girlfriend that you have become too comfortable with, and who you know is not any good for you, but the sex is so good you can't bring yourself to let her go, even though you know that's the right thing to do, so you break up, get back together, over and over until one day you wake up and say f### it, I'm done with this bitch . . .
Wait, what was I talking about?
Oh yeah, my gut. So, anyway, if I want to realize my dream of getting my ass kicked in a mixed martial arts fight (more on this another day), I have concluded that the gut needs to finally be killed off, or atleast as much as possible.
So I am giving P90X a try.
This is a series of videos that is designed for "muscle confusion." Basically, you are constantly doing something different, every day. It has three phases, 30 days each, for a total of 90 days. If you have seen the infommercial (and it is on all the time so it would be tough to miss) you know that the point of these videos is not to add alot of mucle mass, but basically to build lean, toned muscles. Basically the opposite of my present body type.
I just completed Day 1 this morning. This was the "Chest and Back" DVD, and man it was a killer. I am terrible at doing pullups, and this one had alot of them in there. I just have a heavy body, and it is hard to pull all of that up. I would make a horrible mountain climber and would be terrible at Ninja Warrior. It also has a ton of different kinds of pushups in there, as well as back exercises with dumbbells. About 50 minutes of that, followed by the "Ab Ripper" DVD, which is basically 15 minutes of pure hell. Ouch. Also, Kirby kept trying to hump me during some of the pushups, which was annoying.
I am going to have Ash take some "before" pictures tonight. Apparently, if you take before and after photos you can submit them and maybe win prizes and stuff. I will of course dutifully post all pictures here.
Tomorrow is plyometrics, or however you spell that word. I will try to do a brief update everyday.
The 90 day plan also has a nutritional plan with it. The first 30 day phase has you doing a high protein, low carb diet to burn fat. Then you switch to more carbs the second 30 days, and still more the last 30 days. Kind of like South Beach, but much easier to follow and less insane. This morning I had a protein shake and two pieces of turkey bacon for breakfast.
I also plan to add initial measurements, weight, etc. when I have time to get them. I will re-do all of that after each 30-day segment to track my progress.
