This is total crap. Here's what Mr. Hayes had to say:
There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others begins . . .
Religious beliefs are sacred to people, and at all times should be respected and honored. As a civil rights activist of the past 40 years, I cannot support a show that disrespects those beliefs and practices
Isaac Hayes' religion - Scientology. This just happens to coincide with the recent episode where South Park rips on Scientology. God, I swear, those stupid Scientologists won't quit.
Matt Stone, co-creator, quickly fired back:
This is 100 percent having to do with his faith of Scientology... He has no problem — and he's cashed plenty of checks — with our show making fun of Christians.
Good for him. Glad he didn't just let that pass without calling Hayes on his BS. Matt is right - South Park has ripped on just about every religion, and every major ethnic group, over the years. In fact, just about every show the last few seasons has picked on one group or another. Hayes was all too happy to participate in - and get paid for - episodes streotyping and ridiculing Asians, Jews, Christians, and any other group the creators could think of.
In fact, the Mormon episode immediately comes to mind. That episode picked apart, in exquisite detail, the beliefs of Mormons in almost the exact same way as the Scientology episode. No complaints from Hayes there.
Or the episode in which the entire town is marching around like German Nazis.
Or the one about Catholic priests molesting kids.
To turn this into a "civil rights" issue is beyond hypocritical.
Thumbs down to Hayes and the Scientology nutbags.
